Harvest

We have started harvest. We are currently cutting grain. The  combine is a cool tractor. Although, when we rode in it, the A/C was broken and it was hot. But still really interesting.

But can I be honest? Harvest is hard. Mike is working really long hours and that makes me feel like a single parent. He leaves about 6:30 and is gone until 10:30. And its every day but Sunday, and even then he needs to go check water for the potatoes. And potato harvest means even longer days.

I have to be on all day, every day. And the girls miss having dad around and helping to put them to bed. Tonight Addie asked me, "Mom, please drive up to the fields to get dad. I'll stay here and take care of Leah. I'm a big girl and I'll take care of sis. Just park on the bridge so I can see you."  It was really sad, but so sweet.

BUT.. I'm just looking forward to November. Things quiet down real fast. I can't wait. Farming is kind of a hard life, but it's really rewarding. And, Mike is really happy. Tired, but so much happier.

This has been the best change for our family.

  1. Hang in there, Alyse. You guys seem to be loving and totally embracing this brand new lifestyle. You're right, things will slow down soon!

  2. I've been thinking of you and harvest this week... you have so much on your plate now! I'm so happy for Mike that he is farming again (a happy hard working husband is a blessing!), and so impressed with how graciously you've jumped into your new life.

Lots of love and prayers for you. I miss you!
