When are you moving? End of March.
Why so soon? We've known since last July that we would be moving. But we need to get back for planting.
Where is the farm? 3 miles east of Rexburg city limits, technically its in Sugar City.
What do you guys grow? Potatoes, wheat and barley.
What do you do with the potatoes, wheat, and barley? The potatoes go to a distributor and are mostly used in restaurants on the east coast. The grain goes to Budweiser. To make beer.
Where will you be living? For the short term, we have rented a house in Sugar City.
Has the farm been in the family very long? Yes! I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Mike's great-grandpa homesteaded and started the farm.
What does a farmer's wife do? Mostly, my role doesn't change. I still get to take care of my kids wearing my sweats. I might work during potato harvest, but I think that mostly includes bringing drinks and treats to the other people that are working.
Are you excited? Yes! I was pretty nervous when we first decided to move. I had my reservations about moving to a small Mormon community, but as I have prayed and talked to lots of people, I am so happy and content with the idea of living there. I am so glad my kids will get to grow up near family. I am hoping that my kids will want to work on the farm. I am sad to leave friends and Seattle (I've lived here for 12 years and there is something so cozy about a wet, gray day) but I am so excited for a change of pace. I am excited to make new friends and have new memories.
